BS PAS 223:2011 specifiesrequirements for establishing, implementing andmaintaining prerequisite programmes (PRPs) anddesign requirements to assist in controlling food safetyhazards in the manufacture of food packaging.
BS PAS 223:2011 is applicable to all organizations, regardless ofsize or complexities, that manufacture food packaging.This PAS is not designed or intended for use in otherparts of the food chain.
Food packaging manufacturing organizations arediverse in nature, and not all of the requirementsspecified in this PAS apply to an individualorganization. Each organization is required to conducta documented food safety hazard and risk assessmentthat includes each requirement. Where exclusions aremade or alternative measures are implemented, theseneed to be justified by the food safety hazard and riskassessment.
BS PAS 223:2011 is not a management system standard and isintended to be used by food packaging manufacturingorganizations that wish to implement PRPs in such away as to address the requirements specified in BS ENISO 22000.
BS PAS 223:2011 is intended to be used in conjunction withBS EN ISO 22000, not in isolation.
NOTE- For the purpose of this PAS, the term foodincludes beverages.
